INGREDIENTS
 
½ cup vegetable oil
1 cup white sugar
3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
3 eggs
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon of anise extract
½ cup chopped almonds
DIRECTIONS

 

  1. Heat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius (375 degrees Fahrenheit).
  2. Line baking trays with baking paper.
  3. In a small bowl beat the oil, eggs, sugar and anise extract.
  4. Put the flour and baking powder into a large bowl.
  5. Add the egg mixture to make a heavy dough.
  6. Divide the dough into two. Form each piece into a roll (as long as your baking tray).
  7. Press down to a ½ inch thickness.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden.
  9. Place on a wire rack to cool.
  10. When cool enough to touch, slice on the diagonal about ½ inch slices.
  11. Put the slices cut side up back onto the baking tray and cook. for another 6-10 minutes on each side.
  12. Slices should be lightly toasted.
  13. Store in an airtight container.
  14. Enjoy with coffee!
